How to get to Merimbula

Flights – Merimbula Airport is located 2 km from the town centre. Use the taxi services available at the terminal or pre book with a local driver to make the short trip north. Alternatively, rent a car from the hire services available at the airport and explore the region at your own pace.

REX Airlines operates daily direct flights to and from Sydney and Melbourne, in addition to weekly direct flights to and from Moruya. Qantas also offers direct flights into Merimbula. For other major Australian cities, connect via Sydney or Melbourne to travel into Merimbula.

Driving –  Situated midway between Sydney and Melbourne, Merimbula and Sapphire Coast are roughly 6 to 7 hours’ drive along the Princess Highway from both cities. These scenic coastal and hinterland drives should be enjoyed at a leisurely pace, visiting the charming local towns they pass through as a way to see the sights.

If you’re driving to Merimbula and Sapphire Coast from Canberra, the route along the Monaro Highway is a much more comfortable 3 hour drive. While this is the most direct route, it’s certainly not the prettiest as it cuts a path further inland. If you would prefer a more scenic journey, take the Kings Highway to Batemans Bay and then follow the Princes Highway south. It will only add an extra hour onto the total length of your journey but the views will be worth it.
